Puerto Tarraco is located in the inner harbour of the Port of Tarragona and has a water surface measuring 120,000 m2. With an average depth of 9 metres, it is ideal for the safe manoeuvring of large yachts. A 70-metre drawbridge separates this harbour from the rest of the Port.

The docks of Puerto Tarraco offer a 32,050-m2 concession zone. The beautiful 1,060-metre rockwall perimeter was built over a century ago in the style of the Roman city that Tarragona once was.

Two breakwaters, measuring 100 and 120 m, respectively, have been built to prepare the harbour for long vessels. These breakwaters protect the mooring area from the prevailing winds. Puerto Tarraco has capacity for yachts measuring from 22 to 120 metres in length. With over 1,000 metres of rockwall between the two breakwaters, close to 120 vessels can be stern-moored in the harbour.

Facilities

To ensure that the yachts are safety moored, Puerto Tarraco provides dead-weight moorings weighing 40 tn, on average.

The following ground connections are provided: 63-amp to 600-amp three-phase currents at each berth, depending on the length of the vessel; fresh water; direct wastewater collection at each berth with connection to the sewer system (Puerto Tarraco is the only Mediterranean harbour to offer this service for vessels of this size); telephone; cable Internet; and satellite television.

Services

Puerto Tarraco has high-powered auxiliary craft to assist with manoeuvring, as well as pontoons to assist with maintenance work.

Running parallel to the rockwall, 4 metres from the water, a glass-and-stainless-steel barrier with automatic sliding doors ensures the privacy and security of the yachts without compromising visibility.

The technically advanced security and access-control measures comply with all applicable legislation, as well as the changes to the SOLAS Convention (ISPS Code). Puerto Tarraco is proud to offer 24-hour security service, with restricted access and several security cameras.

To ensure that the harbour remains pleasant, clean and peaceful, all users are provided with a set of guidelines for proper use of the facilities.

Because we care about the environment, we have carried out sustainability appraisals and established a series of protection measures, including systems to clean the harbour water, floating barriers to trap solids and hydrocarbons, ‘boat-to-boat’ selective waste collection services, and training and awareness-raising programmes for harbour staff.

Buildings

Five low-rise rectangular buildings and one octagonal building stand along the Llevant and Lleida docks.

With a total surface area of over 15,000 m2, these buildings will be rented out as offices, shops, store rooms, British pubs and cafeterias.

The Port of Tarragona is home to several companies dedicated to boat maintenance. A new shipyard with a 500-tn travel lift is scheduled to open in late 2007.
